Wow, people were really mad at me, weren't they? I must remember that as I plot away, seeing what this year's structure is going to be and what others are going to do. Plot away and make plans to avoid the bad of last year and repeat the good...yes...bloody BLOODY plans...
I may also soon post a gigantic rant about Reddit. Undecided.
I think it's very important that RP plotlines be "opt-in" so people who aren't interested don't have to join and aren't interfered with, and also that the storylines not be too apocalyptic so that characters who don't join in aren't seen as ridiculous idiots for not fighting to save the universe or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThat was the principal issue with Mr. Evil Midnight, and why he was such a controversial villain. It was actually part of his in-story plans to single out and bother every last character in the entire bar, and his omnipresence meant that any fun, casual moment could be ruined by grimdark in an instant.
If you want characters to be put through hell again with the reward being another post at the end saying "And yet evil still remains somewhere so you sort of win but lose anyway", go for it, but just ensure that it's not a requirement to be in your plot in order to continue posting in the bar with any sort of narrative credibility.
I've said so much about my issues with last year's plotlines that I don't think I need to repeat them here. But I would like to mention this;
ReplyDelete"If you want characters to be put through hell again with the reward being another post at the end saying "And yet evil still remains somewhere so you sort of win but lose anyway""
There wasn't really a satisfying end to the Lord plot, apart from "we return to the status quo, you didn't really kill him and blah de blah." It's like dangling a carrot just out of reach of a donkey to get him to do something, and then, when he's done all the work, telling him he can only have half the carrot. And it wasn't even a very good carrot.
And I don't even like carrots. But I digress. The lack of a conclusion that MEANT something didn't feel good - it was the stuff that happened afterwards that was awesome. We didn't go "Huzzah, we beat Lord Deviantart," we went "thank fuck, this plot is over, let's do some light fluffy stuff to make up for it."
So yeah, too many words again. Gonna sleep now.
