Mostly Harmless

There were things Ruukoto knew, and things she didn't know.

She wasn't sure where a random ranting man staggering up the beach fit into that binary, though the fact that he tried to grab her probably made it lean towards 'a risk to further cleaning.'

"IT COMES! THE STAR OF BLACK ICE!"

"Sir!" Snapping to attention, Ruukoto moved towards the man, keeping a tight grip on her favorite broom. "Do you require assistance?"

"IT BRINGS DESTRUCTION! GRAVE MISFORTUNE! OH THE HORRORS IT WILL AWAKEN!"

Apparently the old man decided that was enough, as he let go to wander up the beach, still rambling about 'terrible stars' and 'destruction against any who oppose'.

"I... do not understand." Wondering what the man’s ramblings were about, Ruukoto decided to file them away for later. After her shift ended, it’d be time to research the Star of Black Ice... if there was even anything to find.

She did not notice the strange man wander into the ocean and vanish under the waves. No body came floating to the surface later, so it seemed like he didn't drown.

And as it turned out, he may have been babbling nonsense. No conversation or research could turn up anything about a 'Star of Black Ice'.

Maybe Ruukoto would have had more luck if the strange screaming lunatic had used the word 'comet'.

Because outside the solar system, reality rent asunder, and it came through. Speeding through the cosmos.

Heading for Earth.
